About Jacqui
My name is Jacqui Bennett and I am the Ocicat Breed Council Secretary.  I have been owned by and been breeding ocicats since 1998.  My first ocicat was a lovely blue spotted boy bred by Barbara Stewart of Auxarc Ocicats.  While Bisbee was fairly certain that show halls were places to avoid, he was much loved and produced lovely babies including my first Regional Winner (Grand Champion Regional Winner Low Country Hot Toddy) who has held the title of highest scoring tawny spotted ocicat in CFA history since his win in 2003.  Bisbee has since retired to a wonderful home in California where he enjoys basking in the sun and ruling his household.

My personal love has always been the black gene and I have had the privilege of breeding grand champions in 3 of the 4 black genetic colors.  I have also been privileged to succeed with grand champions and premiers in 3 of the 4 chocolate genetics, but firmly believe that all 12 colors of ocicat are uniquely special and have had deserving success in the show ring.  It is my goal to have bred a cat who eanrs the title of grand in each of our 12 colors.

As your breed council secretary I feel it is my responsibility to act as your liaison between the CFA board and you, the breeders to continue to work towards standardizing our breed and perfecting our standard.

We have recently seen a significant upswing in the performance of dilutes in the show ring including our first dilute National Winner (GC/GP NW Mosu Grey Thunder), numerous dilute and dilute silver grand champions and grand premiers and numerous dilute and dilute silver regional winners. Along with this upswing, we as a breed council have submitted a proposal for the separation of the dilute and dilute silver class into its base colors.

Some of you have approached me with ideas for amendments or additions to our standard.  What I hope to do is place these ideas on to the breed council list for open and non hostile discussion of their merits.  We will ensure that the proper format for an item to be included on the ballot is readily available on our breed council web site.

This will allow a  thorough discussion of the idea itself the wordings of any proposal in a friendly constructive atmosphere long before it arrives in your mail box for voting on.  We will utilize the yahoo polling tools to get a general idea of an ideas support as well.   While I understand that not all members of the breed council have access to the internet, this media is the quickest and most thorough for discussion available to us.

I am committed to passing on information from CFA as quickly as possible to all members.  As it comes to me, I will communicate it to you.

Working together we can pool our knowledge and understanding of our special breed in order to ensure that we breed consistently to an easily interpreted and understood standard without fragmenting into regionally identifiable types.

Thank you for your support in the upcoming years.  I look forward to working with you.

Many thanks to Barb Stewart, Auxarcs Ocicats for her significant contribution to this history of the Ocicat.
